Jomsom Trek

Duration: 14 Days                    Maximum Elevation: 3800m

Grade: Medium                       Season: Mid September to November and March to mid May

Summery: The classic Lodge trek starts with long climb to Ghorepani, then drop into the World's deepest George. Crosses the main Himalayan range to Tibet-Like country in Jomsom.

This exhilarating 12-day trek offers some of the most dramatic views of the Himalayas and offers a stark contrast in scenery as it emerges on the dry Tibetan plateau to the far north. It also allows allows for a number of unique cultural encounters with people who maintain their ancient traditions. The maximum altitude reached is 3800m, and a moderate level of physical fitness is required to comfortably complete this expedition.

The journey starts from Kathmandu, from where we will take tourist bus to Pokhara for overnight. The first stage of the journey, we will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the rice terraces and mountainside, and pass a number of villages inhabited by the fearless Gorkha soldiers. In Ghandruk, we will be able to visit the fascinating Museum of Traditional Nepalese Life. The following morning, we ascend through magnificent rhododendron forests, where the playful Langure monkeys will entertain us. Emerging from the forest, we will be able to appreciate the majestic landscape of the Annapurna range. We will make the short trek to Poon Hill (3210m). From here, we can admire the sunrise over the wide expanse of the Himalayas and surrounding rice terraces, a photographer's paradise. We continue to the ancient pilgrimage area of Tatopani, where we will be able to relax in the soothing hot springs. Following the breathtaking Kali Gandaki River Valley, officially the deepest gorge in the world flanked by the immense statures of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna #1 (both exceeding 8000m). Continuing our ascent, we will be able to marvel at the gargantuan glacier of Dhaulagiri. We will arrive on the dry windy planes of the Tibetan plateau (2600m) where the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath temple (3800m) is situated, with its 108 spring water taps and mysterious natural gas fires. Here we will experience the deeply spiritual atmosphere and observe the unusual merging of Hindu and Buddhist worshipers.  Continuing, we descend across the windy plateau to Jomsom village, from where we will take an exhilarating mountain flight through the Kali Gandaki gorge enjoying our last spectacular views of the Himalayas, taking us back to Pokhara.
